ESYS today (8th August 2008) have launched a
newly designed version of the UKGECC (UK Global Environmental Change Committee)
Website.This new version replaces the
one originally designed and hosted for the GECC back in 2004.It is hosted on the ever increasingly popular
Joomla Content Management System (CMS).
The site is based on a template from RocketThemes and runs
on Joomla 1.5.Dave Parker, lead
designer of the new website stated that the new site is "more flexible than the
previous version, allowing a more diverse amount of content to be added to the
site in the future".
Original content from the previous site was transferred over,
with enhancements added to allow visitors to the site to see upcoming GECC
events and news.Dave Parker added "the
whole purpose of redesigning the site was to make it more ‘feature-rich' and
allow easier addition of content which is relevant to the activities carried
out by the GECC.We opted for the Joomla
platform based on the success of launching the ESYS corporate website on the
same platform back in February this year".
The new GECC website has a much cleaner, fresher look than
the old one. It is also much easier to navigate, making it easier to find
information about the GECC and its subgroups - including what they do, who
their members are and when they meet. The ‘events calendar' allows you to see upcoming events, and the ‘file
repository' makes it easy to access documents related to the GECC, including
the minutes of meetings and reports produced by the committee and its
subgroups. We hope that these features will make the website useful to a range
of people - including scientists, policy makers and members of the public - and
thereby help to increase the visibility and impact of the GECC's work.
ESYS act as secretariat for the GECC, with Mike Dillon
co-ordinating meetings and being the contact point for the GECC content.
