Purpose

The purpose of this task is the provision of a global GNSS market and benefit analysis. The analysis allowed the identification of regional opportunities and benefits world-wide for European industry and identified GNSS and Galileo markets by number of users and revenues for main applications and geographical regions.

The analysis

The overall time scale for the analysis is from 1995 to 2020. The mid-term period up to 2010 focuses on EGNOS applications, with a sensitivity analysis being required for the forecast market estimates. This analysis is based upon previous results using consolidated assumptions to produce results with corresponding levels of confidence for each market forecast.



The analysis provides evidence of the added value of Galileo services that benefit from EGNOS applications. It also shows the infrastructure requirements for local elements by application and regions. Finally the status of communications technologies the need for receiver development in different applications is monitored.

Information sources

The market analysis is built upon previous results contained within the Galileo Market Observatory (GMO) model which provides forecast market results year on year out to 2020. In addition the model shows the number of users and revenues globally and broken down into 10 geographic regions including a region for the EU accession countries.
