Within ProDDAGE, there were five main tasks:
-
Applications and services development plan: the purpose of this activity is to define a GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) applications and services development plan containing specific recommendations for different application domains and for each region, that will lead to to the penetration of EGNOS in the short-term and Galileo in the long term.
-
Application market analysis: the purpose of this activity is the provision of a global GNSS market and benefit analysis. The analysis allowed the identification of regional opportunities and benefits world-wide for European industry and must identify GNSS and Galileo markets by number of users and revenues for main applications and geographical regions.
-
Application business development: during this activity, specific domains (market, user types, regions) will be identified from the application market analysis for more detailed analysis within a business case study. The selections may be based upon a promising opportunity that has not yet been fully reflected in the overall market analysis, or applications for which there are considerable uncertainty in demand, market sensitivity to price, or reliability of revenue mechanisms. For each selection, a business case is constructed along standard business analysis processes.
-
Demonstration projects: the purpose of this activity is to conduct small-size demonstration projects with the full involvement of the end-user community and with the specific objective of seeding the market in support of the overall application market development plan.
-
Training and awareness: the purpose of this activity is to increase the vsibility among target user groups and other stakeholders of the value of the EGNOS and Galileo services.
The overall schedule for these activities is illustrated the diagram below:
The programme is divided into three phases. Phase 1 lasts up to 4 months from the start of the project. Phase 2 lasts from 4 months to 4 to 16 months from the start of the projects and Phase 3 lasts from 16 to 24 months.
As can be seen from the diagram, all four of the main activities described above are undertaken in parallel. At the end of Phase 1, the GJU will select 4 demonstrations (the activity shown in purple). Once the selection has been made, demonstration planning and implementation are undertaken, culminating in the issue of a report in Phase 3 detailing results from the demonstrations.
A draft version of the Applications and services development plan will also be created during Phase 1 (the activity shown in green). During Phase 2 this document will be further developed with a service development strategy and marketing plan for different application domains and regions, culminating in a report in Phase 3.
Also during Phase 1 market and business priorities will be identified (activity shown in yellow). During Phase 2, market analysis and business case analysis will be undertaken, culminating in reports in Phase 3 detailing the market analysis results and business development plans respectively.
The training plan is drafted in Phase 1 (activity shown in blue). Two tasks under this activity are undertaken in Phase 2. These are the e-learning tool, a information resource on Galileo, and in particular training material associatecd with specific events during ProDDAGE. This tool will have been developed by the start of Phase 3. The training content will also be developed during Phase 2, culminating a report containing feedback and recommendations.
